About Our Self-Taught Reading Program

3 GRADE LEVELS IN 3 WEEKS!

When we were notified that our daughter was 1.5 years behind in her reading scores in the second grade, Babs started volunteering at our local school as a teacher's helper with reading programs. That was almost 30 years ago!!

We created this program for children to catch up with their peers! We noticed that most of the children that we taught had already formed some bad reading habits!.. they were making reading too difficult!! Over the years, I felt that I had developed a good reading program! When I received my students, they were already behind; I was always changing my techniques to see which of my ideas worked the best. At the same time, I was starting to see patterns as to why my students were having difficulties when reading words.

But...the most amazing reading results started to happen when my husband, Knobby, started drawing his silly pictures for my sounds!!! Those students that were able to be with me several times a week, showed rapid improvements!! In a few weeks, their word recognition skills advanced beyond their grade levels. I knew that Knobby had given those students with reading problems and me what we needed ! ... pictures... to help the kids remember my reading program!!

Several people have asked me to make a reading program with my methods of teaching kids and adults how to read in a short period of time! Here it is! ... a program for you to enjoy Knobby' s pictures while you are learning how to read!!

Love to all,
Babs & Knobby

Thank you again for being the catalyst for my success in reading. Your DVD series is great. I have always struggled with what to do with the vowels. Not knowing the vowel sounds and blends was my biggest obstacle. What worked best for me was to hear the letter sounds at the same time I read the words. Being able to play the information over and over again, helped me to grasp the concept of blending sounds. The pictures were also helpful in helping me to visualize the sounds.

When looking for a program on the internet, I found several reading programs out there. What stood out for me on your website was "self taught reading program", which would allow me to pursue my goals in private. (I was too embarrassed to ask anyone I knew for help.)

If you would identify me as "John", I would not have any problem with your using my letter on your website. I would prefer you not use my full name, or give out my e-mail address, but I would be glad to respond to anyone's questions if you send me their e-mail address.
